Please be aware that we have not located a site as of yet, however, we are diligently seeking and there are some very possible sites that are beginning to emerge. We ask for prayer that the Lord help us with the right opportunity in the very near future. The official name of the non-profit is “The Joshua Foundation”. The retreat house will be called “The Joshua House”.

The exterior and its surroundings

Much of what the actual house and grounds will look like hinges on what becomes available. Search parameters include a site with many acres or access to plenty of open property for walks, camps or activities. How better to spend an “Indian Summer” evening than singing praise songs with an acoustical guitar around a fire. We are hoping for streams, waterfalls, lakes or ponds, as they would help to enhance the grounds and surroundings. Utility infrastructure must be available to support a facility accommodating as many as 100-125 guests. The site should be within 2 hours of Pittsburgh and easily accessible. Although raw land can be purchased and built upon, ideally there will be a building on the site that can be renovated, refurbished, or expanded. The cost and time to begin operations could be less in the latter. Regardless of the style of construction: English Cottage, Stone and Cedar Chalet or a Victorian-Farmhouse, when guests drive up to the grounds upon their arrival, they will likely be transformed and easily able to leave everything about their daily lives behind them…..at least during their stay.

A look inside The Joshua House

Upon entering the Inn, A guest’s senses will immediately be filled with sights and sounds all working together in harmony to provide a peaceful environment. Music coming from the sound system will be gently playing throughout the common areas and available in the individual rooms if so desired by the guest. Common areas will provide welcoming places to convene for meetings, Bible lessons, fellowship among guests, or simply prayer and worship. Winter guests of The Joshua House may be found gathered around the immense cut-stone fireplace taking in the warm blaze and some valuable lessons from Matthew’s Gospel. Early spring guests may find a familiar comfortable place at one of the many window seats that will be available to look out on the grounds during a rainy day. Many will be found early on a summer morning utilizing the comfortable seats and rockers on the front porch. Coffee or tea in one hand, reading their book and awaiting the sun to peak over the mountain on what promises to be a perfect day at The Joshua House.

Retreat Sponsorship Initiative

We at The Joshua Foundation want to stress that we are committed to being good stewards of the money entrusted to our ministry by many of you. There is a verse from Luke’s Gospel where Jesus says: Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much”. Luke 16:10. Prior to commencing operations of The Joshua House we have decided to set aside an annual fund to be made available to people who desire to make a Christian retreat but are too financially burdened to do so. Part of our mission involves seeing that no one is prohibited from enjoying The Joshua House because of financial limitations, therefore, we can begin this practice by sponsoring people who visit other retreats. The total amount of the annual fund will be determined shortly, but we welcome anyone who may know someone who fits the above description to submit his or her request to us for the upcoming year. Please mail, fax, phone, or e-mail: the person’s name, phone number and desired retreat center to us and we will be happy to try to accommodate the request.

The use of the word “we” in this newsletter literally means Craig and Leeanne Schweiger, our Board of Directors and the dozens of people who have worked thus far because of their genuine interest in making The Joshua House a reality.

Although we have been successfully raising funds for five years, this is still a ground floor ministry, if anyone feels compelled to engage himself or herself into this effort, the door is wide open. Donations have been pouring in to this effort, we graciously thank you! The Joshua Foundation is an IRS approved 501 (C) 3. Every donation will receive a fully documented receipt for income tax deduction purposes.

We would like to make the request of you for prayers as well as information about any existing property or structures that you may know to be available to purchase that could be converted into our retreat house.
